PERKINSTON, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams both defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast CC for the second time this season. The men won 7-0 while the women scored a 6-1 victory.
MEN'S RECAP
The men gutted out a tough doubles point as the first two flights both went to tiebreakers.
Marc Mail and
Sep de Visser persevered 7-2 in their tiebreak at flight one. Meanwhile,
Jay Temming and
Joseph Townes scored another doubles victory by winning their tiebreak 7-2. At flight three,
Marius Gyllerup and
David Tesic coasted to a 6-2 win.
In singles, the Privateers dominated, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Only one of the 12 sets was pushed beyond eight games.
Mail notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory at flight one.
Julian Franzmann won 6-1, 6-1 at flight two. Townes scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory at flight three. Tesic, de Visser and Gyllerup completed the lineup by only losing seven games between them in their straight set victories.
With the win, New Orleans has moved to 8-4 on the season.
WOMEN'S RECAP
The Privateer women (4-6) overcame playing with just five available players to notch a 6-1 victory over the Bulldogs.
In doubles,
Kateryna Kalistratova and
Ananya Dhankhar cruised to a 6-1 win at flight two doubles.
Fleur Sprengers and
Nouray Khaled earned a late service break to win 7-5 and secured the doubles point.
In singles, two matches went to three sets. Kalistratova won her third set 6-3 at flight one while Khaled also repeated that score in the third set of her match at flight three.
Sprengers won 6-3, 6-1 at flight two.
Iris Danne didn't lose a game in her first set as she won 6-0, 6-2. Dhankhar won 6-3, 6-3 at flight five.
The only point the Bulldogs won was by forfeit at flight six.
NEXT UP
Both teams will play UTRGV on Saturday at the Privateer Tennis Center. The women's match gets started at 11 a.m. with the men to follow.
