Men's Tennis Falls in Intense Battle Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers put up a ferocious battle but fell by a 5-2 margin to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Tuesday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
 
A high intensity doubles point came down to the wire. Sep de Visser and Matthew Armbruster were the first off the court after they won 6-3 at flight one. The Islanders countered with a flight three victory by a 6-3 score from Nathan Favier and Matthieu Coignet.
 
It came down to flight two where Joseph Townes and Jay Temming broke serve to get level at 5-5. The Islanders won the next two games though to take the opening point of the day.
 
New Orleans got points from David Tesic and Julian Franzmann. At flight five, Tesic rallied back from a break down twice early in the first set to take it against Nicolas Trebuchet. Tesic won the 10-point tiebreak in the third set 10-7.
 
Franzmann won the first set against Tom Berry and took the final set by a double break in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 decision.
 
In singles, the Islanders got a win from Favier at flight one who survived a rigorous tiebreak to win 6-1, 7-6 (5). Harry Fouzas also won in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 at flight six.
 
Omar Suarez and Nicholas Niox both won in three sets. Niox won when his opponent, Townes had to retire after five games in the third set.
