NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team finished up strong with a clean sweep as they defeated the Nicholls Colonels 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Flights two and three in doubles finished within seconds of each other.
Joseph Townes and
Jay Temming scored a 6-3 win after gaining a late service break in their match.
Marc Mail and
Julian Franzmann then followed with a 6-3 victory of their own.
"They played really well starting with the doubles point," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "They're all playing well and they were in the zone today. I just thought we did a good job executing from the beginning to the end."
In singles, the Privateers continued the momentum. Mail asserted command early and was first off the court after a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Franzmann followed closely behind after he got a double break in the first set and took that to a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Joseph Townes pulled away in the middle of the first set and scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory at flight four.
Matthew Armbruster won the last five games of the second set to finish off a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Sep de Visser gutted through a couple of long sets to score a 6-4, 7-5 victory to put the Privateers on the brink of a sweep.
David Tesic completed the sweep at flight five. He came back from down a break in the middle of the second set and took over from there to notch a 6-4, 6-3 win to close out the day.
