Privateers Bash Four Home Runs in Victory Over Southern

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers took the lead for good in the fourth inning and piled on in the next two innings as they defeated the Southern Jaguars 20-9 on Tuesday night at Maestri Field.

Southern (10-16) had the early momentum and raced out to a 5-0 lead after one and a half innings. The Privateers took their first advantage in the bottom of the third when Collin Husser parked a three-run homer.

The Jaguars punched right back in the fourth as Taj Bates homered to give the visitors from Baton Rouge a 7-6 lead.

New Orleans (15-12) came back in the fourth inning with a spurt of their own that took a big step toward determining the outcome. Five runs crossed the plate, with the first two coming on a Bryce Calloway line drive double. Tristan Moore followed with a home run that scored two more.

Calloway and Moore combined for seven hits, eight RBI and eight runs scored on the night.

The offense continued to go to work as they put the game out of reach with an eight-run fifth inning. Xavier Rivera and Jake D'Altrui went for back-to-back homers as they both hit their first long ball in a Privateer uniform.

The Jaguars were looking to extend the game after they scored two in the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jacoby Radcliffe broke from home on a ball that bounced to the backstop. However, Rivera got it quickly on the ricochet and tagged Radcliffe to end the ball game in a run rule.

Aiden Torrez got the win after he struck out three in two innings of work out of the pen.

INSIDE THE BOX
Bryan Loriga added three hits and two runs scored. Husser, Adrian Dominguez and Collin Loupe each had two hits and combined for six RBI. Alexander Saunier had a hit and a walk and scored twice. Brooks Byers threw 1.1 scoreless frames while Jayden Lopez worked a scoreless sixth inning in just seven pitches.
