NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers surged back to the lead in the eighth inning and held off the HCU Huskies down the stretch of a 9-7 win on Friday night at Maestri Field. It's the seventh win in a row for the Privateers and clinches the series in their favor.
New Orleans had first and third with one out after a
Tristan Moore walk and a
Jake D'Altrui single to right. Then
Dalton Hurst came in off the bench and put down a bunt on a squeeze play that allowed Moore to score.
Adrian Dominguez followed two batters later with a two-run single to right.
The Huskies put the tying run on base as Kenneth Dutka doubled to deep center to drive in a run. With runners on second and third,
Bryce Calloway dug in and induced a shallow pop up to center followed by a ground out to second from Jack Walker to end the game and pick up the win.
New Orleans led most of the way after they took an initial 4-0 lead in the second. The big hit came from D'Altrui who parked a three-run homer as part of a 3-for-4 night at the plate.
That was countered by HCU starter and designated hitter, Parker Edwards who hit a three-run homer of his own in the fourth inning to put the Huskies within a run. However, New Orleans stayed ahead until the eighth inning.
Edwards doubled and drove in a run with two outs to cut the Privateer lead to one. Then Rhett Hendricks followed by hitting a single to left on a 1-2 pitch that leveled the score at 6-6.
Zach Longshore retired nine straight to start the game and wound up pitching seven innings in a no-decision. Edwards also threw seven innings in a no-decision for HCU and gave up six runs (three earned).
