Men's and Women's Tennis Both Fall to West Florida on Senior Day

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams both closed their regular season with a loss at home to West Florida on Friday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.

MEN'S RECAP
The men lost 6-1 to the #1 ranked Div. II squad in the nation in West Florida who moved their record to 20-1 on the season. Meanwhile, the Privateers went 12-7 during the 2025 spring campaign.

The lone point came from Joseph Townes who staved off a rally from Albin Ekenros to win the first set. Townes then came up with a single break in the second set as he notched a 7-5, 6-4 win.

Matthew Armbruster forced a third set against Sebastian Rondon after losing the opening set 6-3, but Rondon was the victor in the match as he took the last three games. Sep de Visser won his first set, but Tomas Leston rallied back to win for West Florida 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

The Argonauts got straight set wins on all other courts. Sebastian Sotelo won a first set tiebreak after a long opening set and took a 7-6 (2), 6-3 decision. The Argonauts also won all three matches in doubles.

WOMEN'S RECAP
A women's team that was playing with just four available players in singles was defeated 7-0 by West Florida.

At flight one, Anastassia Kouchnareva had to retire from the match while the Privateers were trailing 5-2 in doubles. The Privateers got a win at flight two doubles from Fleur Sprengers and Nouray Khaled as they got out to a fast start and held through a tiebreak 7-6 (6). The Argonauts clinched the opening point from flight three though as they won 6-4.

In singles, there were only four matches going so the West Florida lead quickly ballooned to 3-0.

In eight completed sets, West Florida only lost 14 games collectively. Carlota Verdu swept her first set en route to a 6-0, 6-2 win. Sandra Recuenco won 6-3, 6-2 at flight two. Guadalupe Martinez held through after an early break in the second set to win 6-1, 6-3.

The women's team closed the regular season with a 5-13 mark as they turn their focus to the Southland Tournament.

NEXT UP
