Privateers Clinch Spot in Southland Tournament Despite Loss to A&M-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers surrendered five runs in the fourth inning and could not recover in an 11-5 loss to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Saturday at Chapman Field.

The win for the Islanders clinched a spot in the Southland Tournament. The Privateers were in before they hit the field after Nicholls lost the first of a doubleheader earlier in the day.

The Privateers took advantage of four Islander errors in the first two innings that aided in two runs. Tristan Moore scored on a Jahlani Rogers sac fly in the opening frame. In the second, a double steal by Collin Loupe from third and Bryce Calloway from first resulted in another run to give New Orleans a 2-0 lead.

The Islanders clawed back to level terms with a pair of two-out RBI from Austin Russell and Isaac Webb in the third inning.

New Orleans jumped back in front on Collin Husser's ninth homer of the year, a solo shot that gave the Privateers a 3-2 advantage. That lead was short-lived though as the Islanders erupted for five runs in the bottom of the frame.

A sac fly from Karson Krowka gave the Islanders the lead and a two-run single from Drake Kerr past an infield drawn in plated two more runs. The Islanders scored one more before a lightning delay hit, stopping play at 7:18 p.m. with the Islanders up 7-3.

Zach Garcia went seven innings and struck out five batters in the win for the Islanders. Their offense had 13 hits at the plate and Drake Kerr led the way with three hits while he scored four runs.

INSIDE THE BOX
Karson Evans and Bryan Loriga each had two hits on the night. Trey Usey threw 1.1 scoreless innings. Jake D'Altrui added a double as the Privateers finished the night with nine hits.
