NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers pushed the Tulane Green Wave through the night but fell on the short end of a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-20) decision on Thursday night at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave gained their first bit of separation in the opening set when they scored six straight points to grow an early lead from one to seven points. Three different Tulane players registered kills in that stretch.
New Orleans had a four-point spurt to trim what grew to a 10-point lead by the Green Wave but they could not draw closer in the opening set.
The Privateers nearly matched Tulane's kill total in the second set with 15 to the Green Wave's 16. Subtle differences in the block favored the Green Wave as they had three blocks to the Privateers' one. Tulane built a 17-10 advantage and withstood a late Privateer rally to take a 2-0 lead.
Tulane had a six-kill advantage in the third set to close out the night in their favor. The Green Wave also had nine blocks to the Privateers' five. Fatima Samb had 10 kills and registered a .667 attack percentage.
