Privateers Fall to Alabama State, Ania Anderson Named to All-Tournament Team

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers fell into an early deficit and could not dig their way out in a 3-0 (25-17 ,25-16, 25-20) loss to the Alabama State Hornets to finish the Pelican Invitational.

The Privateers built an early three-point lead in the first set, but Alabama State responded by scoring on nine of the next 11 rallies to take a 17-13 lead. Taylor Williams had three kills for the Hornets in that stretch.

Alabama State kept the pressure on from there and finished with a flourish as they hit .436 in the opening set with 19 kills to just two errors.

That momentum carried to the early stage of the second set where the Hornets scored on the first seven rallies and eventually built a 13-3 lead. The Privateers could not get closer than within six points for the remainder of the set.

New Orleans set the stage early in the third set for a comeback attempt when they got out to a 7-2 lead, but the Hornets erased that advantage on the strength of Jyriah Morgan who notched a team-leading 15 kills. Essence Jones followed closely behind as the Hornets assumed the lead at 17-16 and didn't look back from there.

Kamrynn Clay had 34 assists, 11 digs and the match-winning kill which was her third of the match.
