BALTIMORE, Md. – The New Orleans Privateers held firm through three tight sets as they finished their weekend in Towson with a 3-0 victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks on Saturday afternoon at SECU Arena.
Courtney Roundtree,
Laura Piva and
Alessandra Meoni helped spearhead the Privateers' offense as they combined for 33 kills on the match. The trio combined for just six attack errors in 63 attempts.
The Privateers got the early jump as they doubled Stonehill's kill total in the first set. New Orleans had 18 kills while the Skyhawks only managed nine. It was a balanced attack as three Privateers had at least three kills in the first set.
Stonehill grabbed an early edge in the second set but the Privateers rallied back and a couple of key points late in the set ensured a 2-0 lead for New Orleans.
Rylie Hallman served an ace to put the Privateers at set point, leading 24-21.
That set concluded on a service error from Stonehill's Abby Farrell. The Privateers had three service aces in the second set.
New Orleans saved their best for last as they hit .300 in the final set. Meanwhile, the Skyhawks offense was limited to a .188 attack percentage in what turned out to be the final set.
Defne Eciroglu capped off the match with a service ace. It was the sixth ace for the Privateers in the match. The Privateers were also plus-15 in the kill department and plus-10 in digs.
