Women's Basketball Defeated by Southland Leader, McNeese on Saturday

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The McNeese Cowgirls maintained their lead in the Southland standings as they notched a 77-41 win on Saturday afternoon at Townsley Law Arena.
 
The Cowgirls started strong on defense as they held New Orleans to just one field goal in the opening quarter. McNeese got the first 10 points on the board before Mariah Hart got the first point for the Privateers at the free throw line.
 
McNeese went to the half with a 39-18 advantage after forcing 15 turnovers and collecting 11 offensive rebounds which turned into 14 second chance points.
 
New Orleans held the Cowgirls to just 37.5 percent from the field, their third lowest field goal percentage in a conference game but the Privateers themselves were held to just 30.2 percent from the field and committed 29 total turnovers on the day.
 
The Cowgirls had a 27-2 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored New Orleans 20-1 in second chance points to remain atop the Southland standings.
 
Four Cowgirls finished in double figures led by Jalencia Pierre who had 13 points. Dakota Howard had 11 points and eight rebounds. Tyreona Sibley and Lexi Alexander each scored 10 points.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Brialle Washington scored 10 points to lead the Privateers. Jayla Kimbrough had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Lauren Banks finished with seven points and Hart added five points.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will travel to East Texas A&M on Thursday, Jan. 29. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
