NEW ORLEANS –
Lauren Banks had her second straight 20-point performance but the New Orleans Privateers suffered a 75-49 loss to the McNeese Cowgirls on Saturday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena.
McNeese's defense forced eight turnovers by the first media timeout and the Southland regular season champions got out to an early 12-4 lead. By the time the first quarter had settled in, McNeese built a 20-9 lead.
The Cowgirls shot 57 percent from the field in the second quarter and took a 45-19 lead into the half. McNeese finished the day with 50 points in the paint and 34 turnovers forced. The Cowgirls never trailed after the 8:43 mark of the first quarter.
The Privateers were frequent visitors to the free throw line in the third. 11 of their 17 free throw attempts and nine of their 14 makes came in the penultimate stanza.
Mikayla Johnson was responsible for five of those points at the line and finished the day with 11 points.
McNeese had 11 players hit the floor on the game and everyone played double digit minutes. Nobody played more than Tyreona Sibley who logged 27 minutes on the afternoon.
Sibley had 16 points and Lexi Alexander led the Cowgirls with 22 points on the game. Avari Berry finished with 10 points.
INSIDE THE BOX
Banks went 6-of-11 from the field and 7-of-9 from the line while adding nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 36 minutes. Johnson added 11 points and seven boards. New Orleans out-rebounded McNeese 38-31.
