Privateers Pick Up First Conference Win of the Gipson Era

NEW ORLEANS – A three-run fifth and a six-run eighth propelled the University of New Orleans baseball team (5-7, 1-2 Southland) to a 12-6 victory over Stephen F. Austin (9-4, 2-1 Southland) on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field.

Dylan Biddick took a pitch off the shoulder from Gage Elliott before Jayden Adcox singled to open the bottom of the fifth. Adrian Dominguez sent a ball into the left-center field gap for an RBI double. A perfect sacrifice bunt from UNO starting pitcher Karson Evans scored Adcox in the next at-bat, and a wild pitch from Brennan Greer brought home Dominguez to cap the inning for UNO.

Julian Swift's two-run home run in the top of the seventh put Stephen F. Austin within a run before the Privateers left no doubt about the result in the bottom of the eighth.

Reid Bowyer walked Kruise Newman to load the bases before Evan Rogers smashed a two-run double into the left-center gap to give UNO a three-run cushion. With Kareh
Valentin at the plate, Rogers scored on a fielder's choice. Evans scored on an ensuing wild pitch, and Valentin was driven home by a Carson Hepworth sacrifice fly to finish the
Privateers' scoring.

SFA opened the scoring with four consecutive base hits in the top of the second inning. Juan Cantua's double scored Julian Swift before Cooper Schneider singled through the left side to bring home Cantua, giving the 'Jacks a 2-0 lead.

Owen Smith got the Privateers on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the third following a single and stolen base from Hepworth to kick-start the UNO rally. Adcox singled home Smith to tie the game at 2-2.
