BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers faced their toughest challenge of the year on Sunday evening when they lost a 4-0 decision to the #6 ranked LSU Tigers at the LSU Tennis Complex.
The Tigers got the evening started by winning at flights one and two in doubles. Sasa Markovic and Erik Arutiunian engineered a 6-2 win at flight one. Alessio Vasquez and Calin Stribu also scored a 6-3 win at flight two to give the Tigers the first point.
In singles, LSU persevered through a few tough first sets. Vasquez earned a single break to take his first set 6-4. He notched a 6-1 second set to take the clinching point for the Tigers.
Matias Ponce De Leon was the first to finish on court in singles. He only dropped two games in his 6-2, 6-0 victory for the Tigers who moved their record to 19-3 on the season. LSU came into the match with four ranked wins on the season.
Markovic also notched a win at flight two. Similar to Vasquez, he won the first set by a single break before taking the second with only one game conceded in a 6-4, 6-1 win.
The Tigers were ahead in the remaining three singles matches when the contest was decided.
