NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team were narrowly denied in the doubles point during a 4-0 loss to the New Mexico Lobos in a rescheduled match on Tuesday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Jakub Prachar and Alberto Perez scored a 6-1 win at flight one for the Lobos. That was countered by the Privateers' flight two pair of
Gonzalo Cotter and
Jacob Rouleau-Mailly who secured a late service break to win 7-5.
The doubles point saw an intense tiebreak that Dario Ciobotaru and Philip Bosin scored for New Mexico by an 11-9 score to give the Lobos the first point and the momentum into singles.
New Mexico had wins in straight sets at flights one, three and five.
Prachar was the first to finish as he won four of the last five games in the second set of a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Perez followed closely behind with a 6-3, 6-3 win of his own at flight three to give New Mexico a 3-0 lead.
The match was clinched when Ciobotaru earned a service break to finish a second set that had several service breaks encompassed within it. Ciobotaru won 6-4, 6-4 to give New Mexico the victory.
The Privateers won the first set on the remaining courts. Cotter was at 2-2 in the third set of his match.
Carlos Melgosa won a first set tiebreak and the opening game of the second set.
Peter Kieslinger was at 4-4 in the second set after taking the first set on a service break.
