NATCHITOCHES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers fell behind in the third inning and could not come back in a 6-2 loss to the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday afternoon at Brown-Stroud Field.
New Orleans jumped out in front early thanks to a wild pitch from Dylan Marionneaux that scored
Eli Tidwell from third.
Bryson Goff faced the minimum in his half of the first thanks to a double play turned defensively by the Privateers.
Northwestern State jumped in front in the third inning though thanks to a pair of two-out RBI singles. Ethan Menard, who had the big day on offense for the Demons, drove in the first run on a base hit through the left side. Thomas Marsala followed with an RBI single that ricocheted off the glove of Goff that pushed the Demons to a 2-1 lead.
The Demons got some extension on their lead in the fifth inning after the first three men reached on two walks and a bunt single. Menard came up again with a line drive double that scored two of the three runs in the inning to extend the Northwestern State lead to 5-1.
Miles Curley responded by blasting the first pitch of the sixth inning from Marionneaux for a solo homer that cut the lead to 5-2, but that was as close as the Privateers got for the remainder of the contest.
Marionneaux threw his second straight complete game against the Privateers as he allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
Menard went 3-for-5 and drove in four of the Demons' six runs on the day. Sam Ardoin finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.
INSIDE THE BOX
Dylan Biddick continued to stay hot with a 3-for-4 day that included a double. Curley had two hits including the home run. Goff struck out five batters and
Jack Garvey pitched the last 3.2 innings with just one hit and one run allowed.
