Women's Tennis Falls in Near Four-Hour Marathon Against UIW

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers and UIW Cardinals battled for over three and a half hours but it was the Cardinals who held on for a 4-3 victory on Monday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
 
Alexandra Mille earned the deciding point at flight six. After a fierce battle with Ananya Dhankhar, Mille won a second set tiebreak to force a third and match deciding set. Mille jumped to a 5-2 lead, but Dhankhar broke her serve then held to make it 5-4. However, Mille held at the second time of asking to give the Cardinals the victory.
 
New Orleans won the doubles point through a dominant showing at flight one to start. Fleur Sprengers and Danique Vermue won the first four games and coasted to a 6-2 victory. The Cardinals answered with a 6-1 win at flight three.
 
With the first point coming down to flight two, Dhankhar and Kateryna Kalistratova commenced a huge rally from down 4-1 to take the next five games and seal the opening point of the day.
 
UIW got the first two matches to finish in singles. Ine Lamprecht won 6-4, 6-0 at flight three and Amelie Montalvo won 6-0, 6-3 at flight four.
 
The Privateers evened the match at 2-2 when Sprengers secured a late service break that vaulted to her to a 6-2, 7-5 win.
 
UIW went back ahead 3-2 from Victoria Franklin at flight five. After Franklin broke serve to tie the second set at 5-5, she won the next two games to take the match.
 
Kalistratova got ahead by a double break in the third set of her match at flight two and held serve at 5-4 to take her singles match which set up the finish at flight six.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will face Southeastern on Saturday at 11 a.m.
