NEW ORLEANS – The Privateers women's tennis team won a crucial doubles point and got singles wins from the top three flights to defeat the Southeastern Lady Lions 4-3 on Saturday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Danique Vermue and
Fleur Sprengers continue to be an excellent pairing as the two Dutch women scored a 7-5 win at flight one over Bente Bierma and Paige Duncan. That secured the first point after
Naila Krifa and
Nouray Khaled dominated their match for a 6-2 win at flight three.
The tandem of Vermue and Sprengers are now 8-3 overall when paired together and 3-1 against conference opponents.
In singles, Sprengers moved her record to 12-1 overall after another strong performance. She only conceded three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win. Of her 24 sets won in singles this year, 13 have come with letting up two games or fewer.
Kateryna Kalistratova also reached double figures in wins after moving to 10-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Mariam Makashvili. Kalistratova has now won five of her last six matches after the victory on Saturday.
Khaled also secured a point in singles. After winning the first set 7-5 over Aitana Darder, the Lady Lions foe took the second set 6-1. Khaled responded with a solid set of her own as she put away Darder 6-1 in the deciding set to take the match.
