THIBODAUX, La. –
Miles Curley delivered a two-run go-ahead homer and
Eli Tidwell made a game-ending sliding catch as the New Orleans Privateers outlasted the Nicholls Colonels 12-10 to win the series.
Kareh Valentin started out the 11
th by reaching on an infield single. After
Evan Rogers stayed out of a double play that would have ended the frame, Curley jumped on the first pitch from Cole Poirrier and sent it over the fence for his sixth homer of the year.
Luke Lycette carried it the rest of the way as he retired the side in order in the bottom of the frame. He induced a ground out from Jaxon Milam and struck out Logan Terry before the ball hit by Ingersoll was tracked down in right-center by Tidwell, which moved the Privateers to 4-2 in extra inning games this season.
Lycette limited the Colonels to one run on three hits over five innings and struck out four batters for his fourth win of the year.
In a game that featured three ties and two lead changes on the afternoon, the Privateers collected 15 hits including nine from the first three hitters in the lineup.
Dylan Biddick homered on the first pitch of the game and landed a triple shy of the cycle.
Evan Rogers also had three hits and stole three bases. He became the first Privateer since 2017 (Jay Robinson) to steal three bases in a game. The Privateers as a team swiped six bags on the game.
The Privateers lost the lead in the fifth inning after Nicholls scored four runs but they quickly got it back in the next frame. Curley delivered the hit that tied the game at 7-7 as he drove in two runs and advanced to third on an error.
Kruise Newman followed with a go-ahead RBI single and Tidwell homered off the bottom of the scoreboard to put New Orleans ahead 10-7.
The Colonels rallied back with two runs in the seventh before tying the score in eighth. Keegan Giger homered on a 1-2 pitch to lead off the eighth inning as he leveled the score at 10-10, but it was the Privateers who delivered the final say in victory to take the series.
Giger went 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs. Jaxon Milam had three hits including a homer. Carter Jenkins had two hits and two RBI.
