NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers completed their end of what was needed after defeating the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 7-4 on Saturday at Maestri Field to close out the series sweep.
The Privateers now need one more win from Lamar who will pick up a suspended game against HCU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Privateers grabbed the lead first when
Owen Smith hit a solo homer off starter, Preston Watkins on a 1-1 pitch to give New Orleans a 1-0 advantage. The Islanders came back with three runs of their own over the next two frames to surge in front 3-1.
However, a relentless Privateer offense was not to be denied as they came back through
Kruise Newman's two-run homer in the fourth inning which leveled the score at 3-3. The Privateers went on to score over the next three innings.
New Orleans went ahead in the fifth inning when a bloop double and an infield single was followed by an infield single from Newman that put the Privateers up 4-3.
The Privateers added two runs in the sixth off a
Dathan Cummings RBI double and a
Jayden Adcox single that went through the right side of the infield on a 2-2 pitch.
Eli Tidwell capped off the scoring in the seventh with an RBI single that scored
Adrian Dominguez.

The Islanders got a run back in the eighth inning on an RBI ground out by Jarrett Flaggert but that was as close as they got for the remainder of the game.
