Biography

Cindy Kenney is beginning her second year as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Academic Support, Eligibility and Development for the University of New Orleans athletic department.

In this role, Kenney monitors academic performance and student-athlete eligibility and coordinates the NCAA CHAMPS (Challenging Athletes' Mind for Personal Success) Life Skills program and Student-Athlete Advisor Committee (SAAC) on campus.

Prior to her arrival on the Lakefront, Kenney spent 14 years from 1994 through 2007 at Delgado Community College.

Her most recent role came as the Dean of Student Affairs at DCC's West Bank Campus from 2001-07. In this position, she supervised several departments on campus including admission/enrollment services, the registrar's office, financial aid, academic advising and student life.

From 1994 to 2001, she served as an Assistant Professor of Physical Education, in addition to holding roles as the director of the Fitness Center and Intramurals. In this position, she was responsible for scheduling all health and physical education courses while instructing a variety of health, fitness and activity classes.

Handling hiring and fitness center management, Kenney also developed a massage therapy certification program, the first massage therapy training to be offered by a public institution in the state of Louisiana.

Before she began work at DCC, Kenney spent time as a physical education instructor at Sacred Heart and Clifton L. Ganus in the New Orleans area.  She also served on the women's basketball coaching staffs at Tulane (1984-85) and Georgia Southern (1983-84).

Kenney is a 1983 graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., earning a degree in psychology. She has since continued her education with a master's of education degree in Physical Education in 1993 from UNO and is now pursuing a Ph.D in Higher Education Administration on the Lakefront with an anticipated graduation date in fall 2010.
