Mike Hill was named head athletic equipment manager in November 2008. The native of Asheboro, N.C. comes to the Lakefront after having worked 28 years at Tulane.
Hill joined the Green Wave athletic department in 1979 as an assistant trainer and equipment manager before assuming the head equipment manager position from 1988 until 2005. During his tenure, he worked with Tulane’s 12-0 football team in 1998 in addition to two College World Series squads.
A member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association, Hill served as the Director of District 4 for six years and was a national program chairman for 15 years, from 1991 through 2005.
A 1995 recipient of the Glenn Sharp Award as the Equipment Manager of the Year, Hill was inducted in 2002 to the Glenn Sharp Equipment Manager Wall. In addition to these honors, he also won a national service award and was a scholarship dedication recipient.
Presently, Hill is chairman for the Lifetime Achievement Award committee for AEMA.
A 1979 graduate of Gardner-Webb with a degree in physical education, Hill is married to the former Cherie Campbell and has two children, Nicholas (20) and Heather (18).
