The New Orleans Privateers officially welcomed in
Amin Nikfar to the athletic's family, it was made official on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015. Nikfar will assists in track and field, serving as the throws coach for head coach
Benjamin Dalton.
Nikfar, an Olympian who competed in the 2012 summer games in London as a shot putter, arrives to New Orleans from Saint Francis High School in California where he oversaw 30 athletes on the school's track and field team.
"Amin has competed at the highest level, being part of two World Championships and two Olympic Games and has coached at Northern Arizona and UC Berkeley," said Coach Dalton. "Outside of these accolades, I am excited about how Amin's passion and goals align with my own here at The University of New Orleans. This gives me the utmost confidence in and respect for his ability in terms of building the Privateer program here at our university."
On the collegiate coaching level, Nikfar worked as a volunteer for four seasons at Northern Arizona University, winning as many Big Sky conference championship titles and completing his master's work in educational leadership.
Nikfar also spent three seasons at Cal where he implemented training plans for the Bear's field athletes while also earning a bachelor's degree in American studies.
As a member of the Iranian National Track and Field teams, Nikfar was a member of two Olympic teams, two World Championship teams and eight Regional and Continental Championship teams.
"I'm very excited to join Coach Dalton and the Privateer family on the Lakefront," added Nikfar. "New Orleans has a lot to offer its student-athletes and I am eager to hit the ground running."
