Monica Kimmel joined the University of New Orleans sports medicine staff in 2019 as the assistant athletic trainer for women’s basketball and women’s tennis programs before switching to volleyball and beach volleyball during the summer of 2020.
Prior to her time on the Lakefront, Kimmel was the athletic trainer for the boys’ basketball team at IMG Academy where she managed daily care and rehabilitation programs student-athletes. In addition to her daily responsibilities Kimmel worked alongside physicians and physical therapists at John Hopkins Children’s Hospital Health Services, strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists and mental health coaches to contribute to all-encompassing care plan for IMG student-athletes.
Alongside her work at IMG, Kimmel was an athletic trainer/sports medicine therapist at ITF Pro Circuit Events for the United States Tennis association offering acute, subacute and chronic injury care for professional tennis players.
Kimmel earned her B.S in Athletic Training from the University of Texas in 2015 as Director’s Honor Roll student in 2013, 2014 and 2015. As Athletic Training student she assisted with Longhorn baseball, football, softball, women’s basketball and women’s track and field.
In 2017 she earned her M.S in Advanced Athletic Training from the University of South Carolina while acting as the Head Athletic Trainer for Orangeburg Preparatory Schools where she managed injury care, hydration needs, rehabilitation and exercise programs for over ten teams in the area. During her time in Columbia, Kimmel was a volunteer trainer for Div. I NCAA Regionals in baseball, track and field, and women’s tennis.
A native of Sugar Land, Texas - Kimmel has been a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association since 2012.
