TROY, Ala - The University of New Orleans volleyball team
jumped out to a 2-0 lead before having to hold off Troy in a decisive fifth
game to defeat the Trojans 3-2 (30-15,30-15, 26-30,27-30, 15-10) on Saturday
afternoon.
UNO (9-10, SBC 3-3) received a career-high of 28 kills from
Dobrilla Kovacevic while Lindsey Loyd and Lindsey Boler added 15 and 10 kills,
respectively.
Jaci Bayley's 54 assists for the Privateers puts her at 2,590
for her career, moving her past Courtney Adler into third place in the UNO record
book for career assists.
Nicky Valenti had 21 digs from the back row while Kovacevic
added 15. Emily Kelly matched a career-high of six blocks as the Privateers
blocked 10 Trojan attacks in the match
Troy (12-11, SBC 3-4) was led by Meghan Gilroy who had 18
kills and Jean McCarthy who added 10. Megan Henderson had 42 assists while
Emily Strader led five Trojans in double figure digs with 14.
In the decisive fifth game, UNO found themselves on the
wrong side of a 8-6 score before scoring seven of the final nine points of the
match to close out the win led by Loyd's five fifth frame kills.
Troy outhit the Privateers in the third and fourth games
with .344 and .232 clips, respectively.
In the second game, the Privateers went on a 12-2 spurt to
open up a 10-7 game as Kovacevic hit .750 for the game with six kills on eight
attempts while Bayley set up 11 Privateer points during the frame.
UNO went on a 11-0 run in the first game to open up a 16-14
advantage into a 27-14 lead for the Privateers. Kovacevic had four aces during
the stretch.
UNO continues their trip to Alabama with a Sunday afternoon
tilt against South Alabama at 1 p.m.
