MONROE, La - The University of New Orleans volleyball team got back in the win column with a 3-1 (30-24,26-30,30-18,30-16) win over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday night.
UNO (16-14, 10-7 SBC) outside hitter
Lindsey Loyd led the way with 19 kills as the Privateers won their 11th straight encounter with the Warhawks and the third between the two Louisiana schools this year.
Dobrilla Kovacevic added 11 kills as UNO hit .242 for the match.
Jaci Bayley passed the 3000 career assists plateau as she totaled 43 assists and currently stands at 3027 career assists.
Kovacevic led three Privateers in double-digit digs with 15.
Nicky Valenti added 11 and
Lauren Loeffelholz had 10 for UNO.
ULM (1-30, 0-17 SBC) received 16 kills from Mari O'Neal. Ilima Sam Fong had 32 assists while Keisha Law led the Warhawks with nine digs.
In the opening game, the Privateers scored seven of the final nine points to break open a 23-22 game. UNO played a strong defensive game, holding the Warhawks to a -.028 hitting percentage.
UNO fell behind quickly in the second game, 14-4. The Privateers would hit a match-low .056 in the game to go into the break tied at one.
Following the break, the Privateers hit at a .400 clip in the third game as they took a 2-1 lead as Kovacevic and Loyd had five kills apiece in the frame.
In the fourth game, it was more of the same as the Privateers hit .517 with Loyd and
Kaley Hubbard each totaling five kills as UNO cruised to a 30-16 win.
The Privateers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m as they host Arkansas State in their final regular season home match. Seniors
Emily Kelly and
Lindsey Boler will be honored before the match.
