UNO Volleyball Picks Up First Win of 2007

BATON ROUGE, La. ? University of New Orleans first-year volleyball coach Jozsef Forman picked up his first win on Saturday, as the Privateers swept past Louisiana-Monroe 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-19) in their final game of the Mizuno Tiger Classic on Saturday at the Maravich Center.

UNO (1-2) dropped a 3-0 decision (30-22, 30-23, 30-19) to Saint Louis in its first match of the day.

Against ULM, though, the Privateers had their best match of the tournament. UNO got 16 kills from junior Dobrilla Kovacevic and held ULM (0-3) to a -.033 hitting percentage.

Junior setter Jaci Bayley led a hard-nosed offensive effort, as UNO hit .232 as a team with Bayley contributing a match-high 21 assists. The Privateers hit .407 in the first game to take command and never looked back.

Against Saint Louis, Kovacevic was the only Privateer to record double-figure kills as the outside hitter tallied a match-high 15 kills on 47 swings.

Sophomore defensive specialist Nicki Valenti had 24 digs on the day, and the Privateers took advantage of 13 aces against ULM.

Kovacevic was named to the all-tournament team.

UNO will make its home debut at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against Tulane at the Human Performance Center.
