Volleyball Swept to End UNF/Jacksonville Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ? The University of New Orleans volleyball team had a rough ending to the UNF/Jacksonville Classic on Saturday, as the Privateers were swept in a pair of matches.

The Privateers (6-7) had a three-match winning streak snapped after No. 8 Washington swept past the Privateers 3-0 (30-22, 30-21, 30-8) in the early match before tournament co-host Jacksonville held on for a 3-2 victory (30-22, 25-30, 30-22, 30-32, 15-12) in the tourney finale.

Lindsey Boler had a match-high 23 kills against JU for the Privateers (6-7), while Lindsey Loyd had 20 kills and 12 digs. Boler and Loyd combined for 114 attacks. Lauren Loeffelholz finished off a good weekend, tallying 10 kills and 16 digs.

Nicky Valenti led UNO with 19 digs.

The Dolphins (5-8) got 20 kills from Aidan Yeager and 18 from Sara Bendorf. Michelle Walroth had a match-high 30 digs.

The two teams combined for 161 digs.

In the first match, the Huskies (11-0) got a match-high 13 kills on a .522 hit percentage from Cristal Morrison. UW hit .455 in the final game and held UNO to a -.017 overall hit percentage.

Loeffelholz led UNO with seven kills, while Valenti (17) and Bethany Kern (14) combined for 31 digs.

UW was not threatened in the match, using a 7-0 run in the first game to take early control. The teams were tied at 10-10 in the second set before the Huskies ran off seven of the next eight points before pulling away.

The Huskies dominated game three thanks to a 16-2 start.

UNO will return home and kick off Sun Belt Conference play on Friday, hosting Florida Atlantic in a 7 p.m. contest at the Human Performance Center.
