JONESBORO, Ark - The University of New Orleans ended a four
match skid and handed head coach Jozsef Forman his first Sun Belt victory in a
3-1 win over Arkansas State (31-29, 31-29, 26-30, 30-24) on Saturday night.
UNO (7-9, 1-2 Sun Belt) received a pair of career-highs from
Dobrilla Kovacevic and Lindsey Loyd as the outside hitters knocked down 27 and
24 kills, respectively.
Cassidy Asebroek led the Privateers with a career-high 32
assists while Jaci Bayley added 21. Defensively, libero Nicky Valenti had 22
digs with Kovacevic and Loyd adding 14 and 12 digs apiece.
ASU (5-11, 1-3 Sun Belt) had four players with double-digit
kills led by Robin Aaron with 19 and Kristen Catalane with 13. Katie Peil had
63 assists to pace the offense for the Indians.
In the fourth game, UNO broke a 19-19 tie with a 7-1 run
that made the difference in a 30-24 win to close out the match.
Carrying a 2-0 lead into the third game, the Privateers hit
a match-low .122 as the Indians pushed the match to a fourth game, 30-26.
The Privateers fended off an ASU game point and tallied the
final three points of the game, capitalizing on three Indians errors to go into
the break with a 2-0 lead.
UNO got off to a slow start as the Privateers had to come back
from a 17-11 deficit before winning the game 31-29 after kills from Kaley
Hubbard and Loyd.
The Privateers continue their Arkansas trip with a tilt
against UALR at 1 p.m on Sunday. UALR (11-5, 3-1 Sun Belt) enters the match
having defeated both Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend.
