FORT WORTH, Texas ? The University of New Orleans volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss in the opener of the Molten/LaQuinta Inn Invitational to post two wins on Saturday, defeating Lamar 3-2 (23-30, 31-29, 27-30, 30-28, 20-18) and Georgia Southern 3-0 (30-18, 30-22, 30-18).
Senior outside hitter Lindsey Boler had 40 kills in the two matches, while Lindsey Loyd added 29 kills and 24 digs as the Privateers (5-5) went 2-1 during the weekend.
Junior setter Jaci Bayley added 85 assists, including a season-best 54 in the win over Lamar. She also directed a Privateer offense that hit.279 in the sweep over Georgia Southern.
In the win over Lamar early Saturday, UNO fought off four match points and was down 14-12 in the fifth game before rallying back. UNO took the decisive set despite Lamar hitting .455 in the finale. The Privateers also rallied back from a 2-1 deficit, as UNO had to win the final two games to claim the match.
The Privateers did not have as much trouble in the tourney finale against Georgia Southern. UNO hit .438 in the first game and rode the combination of Boler and Loyd, who combined for 26 kills in the sweep.
For their efforts, Boler and Bayley were named to the all-tournament team.
UNO will continue non-conference action next weekend at the Jacksonville/North Florida Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla.
