Lady Privateers Strong Shooting Ends Three-Game Home Skid

NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans snapped a three-game home losing streak with a 59-40 victory over Florida International on Wednesday night at Lakefront Arena.

UNO (10-11, 5-5 SBC) reversed their poor shooting as of late, making 46.2 percent of their shots from the field for the game after making 52 percent of their attempts in the first half.

Jada Frazier had 15 points to pace the Lady Privateer efforts while Brittany Helm added another 12 points.

Candice McGee and Ty Felder both narrowly missed double-double performances. McGee finished with eight points and nine rebounds while Felder had nine points to go with seven rebounds.

Jasmine Jenkins had a double-double for FIU (4-17, 2-8 SBC), scoring 13 points to go with 12 rebounds. Ashley Traugott scored another 11 points while Elisa Carey had a game-high 12 rebounds

Shooting was the difference in the opening half as the Lady Privateers entered the break with a 32-19 advantage.

UNO shot 52 percent during the first 20 minutes to 21.9 percent for FIU. The Golden Panthers had made 3 of 6 from the field to open the game, before making just four of their next 26 shots for the remainder of the half.

The Lady Privateers took advantage of FIU's shooting woes to turn an 8-7 deficit into a 26-13 lead on the back of a 19-5 run. UNO would not let the Golden Panthers within 11 the remainder of the opening half.

FIU improved on their shooting in the second half, though it was not enough as the Lady Privateers continued to maintain a double-digit advantage over the visiting squad.

UNO's lead reached as high as 19 points with nine seconds left in the contest on a Cookie Johnson three-pointer.

The Lady Privateers head to the road for the next contest, a Saturday SBC tilt against South Alabama, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
