NEW ORLEANS - Tulane snapped the University of New Orleans' school-record tying eight match home win streak with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22) victory at the Human Performance Center on Thursday night.
TU (2-2) was led by Visnja Djurdjevic's 18 kills. Ksenija Vlaskovic and Marija Milosavljevic had 16 and 11 kills, respectively to round out the Green Wave players in double-digit kills.
Rachel Lindelow was the top setter on the court with 46 assists with Jenn Miller topping TU in digs with 14.
Maria Szivos pounded down 15 kills for UNO (4-3), who fell for the first time on the HPC floor since a loss to Arkansas State last October.
Lindsey Loyd added 12 kills.
Hajnalka Molnar paced the setting efforts for the Privateers with 29 while
Cassidy Asebroek tallied 20 of her own.
Nicky Valenti matched Miller for match-high digs with 14 with Loyd rounding out a double-double effort with 10 of her own.
The Green Wave started the match on a 5-0 run causing Privateer head coach
Jozsef Forman to call a timeout. UNO responded with three straight points and continued to get within two on seven occasions.
Down 19-15, the Privateers finally took their first lead at 20-19 on a block by the duo of
Kaley Hubbard and
Vesna Jelic. The lead grew to 22-20 before Tulane closed the set with the final five points, 25-20.
In the second set, UNO reversed their fortunes by scoring the first four points in the second frame. TU responded with four straight points and 12 of 14 to take a 12-7 lead.
The Green Wave continued with the momentum getting to set point at 24-15. The Privateers held off their visitors three times before TU finally shut the door to go up 2-0 on a 25-18 score.
UNO last lead of the third game came at 10-9 before the Green Wave grabbed control with a 5-0 run. Down 20-16, the Privateers rallied with four straight points to knot the game at 20.
After four ties following the 20-20 deadlock and 14 in the frame, a Loyd kill finally ended the tight set in "extra points" 26-24.
TU scored 6 of 8 to start the fourth set and had a four point lead at 15-11. UNO rallied within one point twice before the Green Wave pulled away late to take a 23-19 advantage.
Forman called a timeout and the Privateers reached within two with the down ref calling a rotation error to give TU the victory.
The Privateers will be back in action on Friday against Long Beach State at 4 p.m. in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic before playing LSU on Saturday at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to park at the Loyola Parking Garage across from Fogelman Arena.
