UNO Continues to Improve on Times in Dual Loss to Florida International

NEW ORLEANS - Florida International claimed all 13 events to defeat the University of New Orleans women's swimming team 175-83 at the UNO Aquatic Center on Friday night.

The young UNO (0-5) squad continued to improve on their times from the beginning of the season.

The Privateers set the tone early with a season-best 200 medley relay effort of 2:06.19, eclipsing the team's 2:08.01 from the season opener.

Thea Haemmerle had two season-best performances to pace the Privateers. Haemmerle shaved eight seconds off her top time of the year in the 100 back with a 1:10.32 and came back later with another season-best, going 1:04.96 in the 100 fly.

Other season-best times came from Paige Chauvin, Lisa Loyacano and Rachel Cogley.

Chauvin wrapped up the 100 breast in a time of 1:23.48 while Loyacano went under 30 seconds for the first time this year in the 50 free, touching the wall in 29.57. Cogley rounded out the best efforts with a 1:00.98 in the 100 free.

"The team continues to progress and Thea had an outstanding show in the 100 fly," said UNO head coach James Winchester. "The next month off from competing will allow us to get sharp and focus on technical aspects of our swimming."

FIU improved to 3-3 on the season as former UNO head coach Randy Horner returned to the Lakefront as part of a two-day visit to the Crescent City. The Golden Panthers will face Tulane on Saturday.

The Privateers will now enjoy a month off from competition before contesting the Delta State Christmas Invitational Dec. 17-19 in Cleveland, Miss.
