Box Score PINEVILLE, La. - A strong three-point shooting performance from Louisiana College allowed the Wildcats to pull out a 81-78 victory over the University of New Orleans on Thursday night.
LC (1-0) made 10 three-pointers in the contest on just 19 attempts to rebound from a 42-36 deficit at the half against UNO (1-1). Jarrod Jackson scored 34 points and shot 4 of 7 from beyond the arc to help pad his total. Jelani Mitchell added another 15 points.
The Privateers led as late as 54-45 before the Wildcats bounced back to take a 60-59 lead.
LC's lead would grow to nine points at 74-65 before a furious UNO rally put the visiting squad in position to manage a win, before a Ryan Kinsley three-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark allowing the Wildcats to avoid an extra period against the Privateers.
Zach Kinsley led UNO with 21 points on the night, including a 3 of 5 effort from long-range. Antonio Wertz scored 13 points while contributing a team-high seven rebounds. Brandon Knight and Brandon Canady added chipped in 10 points apiece.
UNO's bench outscored LC 36-5 with lone scholarship player Jaroslav Tyrna returning to the lineup after missing the opening contest.
The Privateers will conclude their three-game road trip on Monday at 7 p.m. against Mississippi College before beginning their home slate on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a rematch against LC.
