GAME NOTES: UNO | HCU

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Privateers (14-17, 12-10 Southland) will look to avenge a pair of losses to the HCU Huskies (12-19, 8-14 Southland) when the teams meet for the third time this season in the opening round of the Southland Conference Basketball Tournament tomorrow evening.

Coleton Benson and Jakevion Buckley were named second-team All-Southland Conference on Friday morning. Churchill Abass joined the two Texans in receiving league honors when he became the second Privateer in school history to earn Southland All-Defensive team status.

All-time in the Southland tournament the Privateers are 10-8 (.556). UNO won the lone Southland tournament meeting with HCU 90-69 in 2023. The 2018 tournament was the only time UNO was the No. 5 seed – they went 1-1 with a win over No. 8 Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi and a quarterfinal loss to No. 4 Sam Houston State.

New Orleans leads the all-time series with HCU 17-12 but has dropped the previous four contests. HCU beat the Privateers 85-76 on Dec. 6 at Lakefront Arena, and 61-60 at Sharp Gym on Feb. 14.

Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. from the Townsley Law Arena in Lake Charles. All games in the Southland Tournament will air live on ESPN+, and on The Ticket 106.7 FM.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
HCU enters the game coming off a 12-point win over Lamar in their season finale that secured the final spot in this season's Southland tournament. Ryan Bartley, Demarco Bethea, Kylin Green and D'Aundre Samuels all scored in double-figures to help the Huskies secure the eight seed.

Kylin Green ranks No. 3 in the Southland in both total assists (141) and assists per game (4.5). He also leads the Huskies in scoring at 10.2 points per game.
