Box Score NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans needed all of five minutes to get warmed up, bouncing back from a sluggish start to overwhelm Victory 81-59 on Saturday night at Lakefront Arena.
The win was the fourth straight for UNO (9-4), the team's longest streak since Joe Pasternack began his tenure on the Lakefront with victories over Northwestern State, North Carolina State, Tulane and Lamar during the 2007-08 season.
Zach Kinsley scored 23 points in just 27 minutes of play. Jaroslav Tryna and
Ryan Kinsley added 12 points apiece as Tyrna narrowly missed his second double-double of the season by pulling down a game-high nine rebounds.
Victory (7-11) received 25 points from former UTEP guard Myron Strong. Strong failed to score in the first half after shooting 0 of 6 from the field, putting all of his points on the scoreboard in the second half by shooting 8 of 15 over the last 20 minutes.
The first five minutes of the game were rough for the Privateers, who found themselves down 11-6 with
Zach Kinsley shooting 1 of 4 from the field.
As the junior recovered, UNO did.
Zach Kinsley shot 6 of 7 from the field over the next 15 minutes, part of a 57.1 percent effort from the Privateers for the first 20 minutes.
Victory was held to a 30.3 percent clip on 10 of 33 shooting, which included missing all 11 attempts from beyond the arc as UNO entered the half with a 43-23 lead. The 20-point deficit for the Eagles was a change of pace for the visitors, who were outscored 37-12 after their early advantage.
An early attempt in the second half to cut into the Privateers' lead was all that was in store for the Eagles' after the break.
Victory scored the first five points after halftime, including a Josh Guillory three-pointer with 19:10 remaining to get within 15 points.
The Guillory three-pointer was the first after 11 misses for the Eagles, who would not get any closer the rest of the contest as the Privateers' lead grew to a high of 28 on a
Jarred LaFont three-pointer with 3:10 left.
UNO will remain at home for a contest at the Human Performance Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Dillard. The game is the second of a doubleheader with the women's team, who will also face the Bleu Devils.
