SATURDAY, FEB. 12 - UNO Completes Swimming and Diving Season with Competitive Conference Championships (Full Recap)
CLEVELAND, Miss. - University of New Orleans swimmer Jarryd Gregoire tallied two podium placements as the Privateer swimming and diving team wrapped up four days of competition at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference (NSISC) Championships.
Gregoire finished third place in both the 100 fly and 100 free to lead the UNO efforts on the weekend.
The native of Trinidad placed third in the 100 fly on Friday night with a season-best 49.96 before coming back Saturday evening to swim another season-best, a 45.59 to place third in the 100 free. Gregoire qualified fifth for the 100 free, before lowering his time from a morning swim of 45.75 to earn a spot on the podium.
Fellow UNO junior Ryan Moss was the only other male swimmer to reach a final on the weekend. Moss finished 13th with a season-best 1:45.81 in the finals of the 200 free on Friday.
Several Privateer female swimmers qualified for 'B' finals on both Friday and Saturday.
Arielle Hunter and Molly Hutchins made the 'second eight' in the 100 back and 200 free, respectively. Hunter finished 16th in the 100 back by improving her final time to 1:19.02, shaving .25 off her prelim result with Hutchins placing 15th in the 200 free with a 2:26.17 after putting together a 2:20.90 in the prelims.
The trio of Rachel Cogley, Paige Chauvin and Stefania Santos qualified in the 100 breast on Friday.
In the 100 breast, Chauvin led the trio of Privateer participants with a team season-best 1:20.85 to finish 14th. Cogley followed in 15th with her personal best of 1:22.04 and Santos rounded out the group with a 1:34.92, slower than her 1:28.00 time from the prelims.
On Saturday, Cogley paced a group of four qualifiers for the 'B' finals of the 100 free. Cogley finished 13th in a time of 1:01.65 to lead Hunter (14th, 1:05.50), Chauvin (15th, 1:06.78) and Santos (16th, 1:07.35) to the wall.
"The swimmers were a little shell shocked after the first two days of the meet, but I am very proud with how they have rebounded over the last two days of competition," said head coach James Winchester. "Having a lot of swimmers back for finals in a meet consisting of top 10 NCAA Div II teams is a great achievement, and I am very happy with our performances."
Throughout the meet, a host of UNO swimmers posted personal best times.
Chauvin posted personal-bests in the 50 free with a 30.68 while also adding a personal-best in the 100 free with 1:07.31 Other personal bests came from Bethany Salter in the 200 IM with a 2:31.98 and Matthew McDonner in the 50 free, reaching the wall in 25.07.
In relay events, the UNO men's 200 free team of Gregoire, Moss, Brian Comiskey and McDonner set a season-best on Thursday with a time of 1:31.83, topping a mark of 1:33.63 accomplished earlier this season against Incarnate Word and Trinity. Gregoire's 21.20 lead leg eclipsed his season-best performance in the 50 free from earlier this season.
The men would strike a season-best again on Saturday in the 400 relay with Gregoire, Moss, Comiskey and McDonner touching the wall in a season-best 3:21.75. The mark was over 40 seconds quicker than the 4:04.36 accomplished earlier this year.
In the team standings, Truman State won the six-team field on the women's side with 897 points with UNO ranking sixth with 82 points. On the men's side, Missouri S&T posted 833 points to win a seven-team field that saw the Privateers rack up 121 points.
This championship meet concluded the season for the UNO swimming and diving team.
FRIDAY, FEB. 11 - Gregoire Places 3rd in 100 Fly to Lead Privateers
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The University of New Orleans is competing in the New South Intercollegiate Swim Championships at Delta State.
Through three days, Jarryd Gregoire has posted the best performance of any UNO swimmer, placing third in the 100 fly with a season-best 49.96 on Friday night. The native of Trinidad was fifth at the 50 meter mark before touching the wall behind Zachary Interrante of Henderson State and Michael DuBose of Delta State.
Several Privateer swimmers qualified for the 'B' finals on Friday by virtue of their preliminary swim.
Ryan Moss (200 free) was the lone male to reach the 'B' finals with Arielle Hunter and Molly Hutchins qualifying in the 100 back and 200 free, respectively. The trio of Rachel Cogley, Paige Chauvin and Stefania Santos qualified in the 100 breast.
Moss finished 13th with a team season-best of 1:45.81 in the finals of the 200 free with Hutchins placing 15th on the women's side in the same event with a 2:26.17 after putting together a 2:20.90 in the prelims.

Gregoire's 21.20 lead leg eclipsed his season-best performance in the 50 free from earlier this season.
Later in the evening when competing in the 50 free, Gregoire once more posted a low time, finishing 10th in a time of 21.30.
Through two days of competition, the UNO women rank sixth with 54 points while their male counterparts are seventh with 55 points. Truman State leads the women's competition over a field of six teams with 299 points with Missouri S&T reigning on top of the seven-team field on the men's side.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 9 - UNO 200 Medley Relays Kick Off Conference Meet
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The University of New Orleans 200 medley relay teams competed on Wednesday night at the New South Intercollegiate Conference (NSISC) Championships at Delta State.
The UNO women finished sixth amongst 'A' squads competing in the event with the men placing seventh.
On the women's side, Molly Hutchins, Paige Chauvin, Bethany Salter and Rachel Cogley touched the wall in 2:11.74, while Jarryd Gregoire, Brian Comiskey, Matthew McDonner and Ryan Moss wrapped up their competition in 1:45.52.
