NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans volleyball team completed an in-season sweep of Alcorn State with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-16) victory on Thursday night at the Human Performance Center.

The win was the second in three matches for a UNO (5-11) squad which was led by Taylor Berry. Berry totaled 11 kills in the contest as the Privateers hit .304 as a team. Brionne Smith and Marti Richmiller contributed eight and seven kills, respectively.

Ryan Hamilton dished out 19 assists after playing the final two sets. Fellow setter Ariane Labrzycki added 10 assists for UNO, which had previously defeated ASU (1-15) by a 3-0 score in Lorman, Miss. on Sept. 5.

Defense played a key role in the win as the Privateers held the Braves to a -0.075 hitting percentage.  Lauren Levy was responsible for 13 digs as UNO put forth 44 in the contest.

The Privateers trailed 3-1 in the opening frame before scoring 6 of 8 points to move ahead of the Braves 7-4. UNO never looked back while holding ASU to a -.129 hitting clip on way to a 25-14 set victory.

The momentum remained with the Privateers in the second set. The hosts jumped out to a 9-3 advantage and with Levy posting four consecutive aces late in the frame, had no problems entering the break with a 2-0 lead.

There was no turning back in the third frame as UNO never conceded its advantage. Berry had four kills in the final stanza with Smith and Elena Villar adding three apiece as the Privateers closed the match with a 25-16 win.

Shaqaund Hollis had five kills to lead ASU. Georgia Parsons produced 10 assists with Jaclyn Kuzinar handling the back row with nine digs.

UNO will close out their four-match homestand on Monday at 7 p.m. against Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Admission is free to the contest, which will take place at the HPC.
