NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans volleyball program closed its four-match homestand with a victory, dispatching Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-11) on Monday night at the Human Performance Center.
UNO improved to 6-11 with the victory and completed the season's longest stretch of home matches with a 3-1 record.
Elena Villar and
Brionne Smith had matching 11-kill efforts to lead the Privateers, who hit .300 in consecutive matches for the first time since Oct. 2009.
Taylor Berry added 10 kills to the total for UNO, which hit an even .300 after hitting .304 against Alcorn State last Thursday.
Ariane Labrzycki was the leading setter for the Privateers, dishing out 26 assists.
Lauren Levy handled the back row with 16 digs while Villar completed a double-double with 11 digs.
UAPB (4-11) was led in defeat by Alicia Campbell. The sophomore outside hitter totaled seven kills while also pacing the Golden Lions with 10 digs.
UAPB gained their first advantage of the opening set at 4-3. The Privateers answered with four straight points and 11 of 16 in order to take a 15-8 edge. The Golden Lions fought back to within one at 18-17 and 19-18 before UNO heated up once more with a 6-2 run to close the stanza with a 25-20 victory.
The Privateers would hold off another UAPB rally in the second frame. UNO built a 19-11 advantage, only to have the Golden Lions reach within two at 21-19 and 22-20. The Privateers posted the final three points of the set including two consecutive kills by Villar to enter the break ahead 2-0.
In the final set, UNO conceded the first point before reeling off five straight points on Labrzycki's serve. The Privateers did not let UAPB threaten in the frame, jumping out to a 20-6 edge before completing the sweep with a 25-12 victory.
UNO will seek to extend its winning streak to three matches when the squad visits Southern on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. match. The Privateers defeated SU 3-0 on Sept. 26.
