Privateers Lose 91-71 to No. 11 Christian Brothers

Nationally-Ranked Bucs Claim Win at Home

MEMPHIS – The University of New Orleans played the first of a back-to-back on Wednesday night, falling 91-71 to No. 11 Christian Brothers at Canale Arena.
 
CBU (20-5) shot 60 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc. The long-range shooting accounted for 13 three-pointers for the hosts, who also shot 14 of 16 from the line.
 
The strong shooting allowed four players on the Bucs' roster to reach double-figures led by Zack Warner, who scored a game-high 28 points. Warner was 8 of 10 from the field.
 
Other CBU players in double figures were Scott Dennis, Harry Green and Cory Mcarthy. Dennis scored 16 points along with 10 rebounds while the duo of Green and Mcarthy had 14 points apiece.
 
UNO (16-13) received 14 points off the bench from Albert Peterson and 10 more from reserve Colby Barnes. The 10 points for Barnes were a career-high as the sophomore became the 13th member of the roster to net double-digit scoring.
 
Rarlensee Nelson added an additional 10 points for head coach Mark Slessinger's squad, who shot 48.3 percent from the field on 28 of 58 shooting.
 
The game turned on the Privateers early on as a 4-2 lead with 19:10 remaining in the opening half quickly turned to a 14-4 advantage for CBU by the 17:10 mark.
 
A Darrell Williams three-pointer cut the deficit to single-digits at 13:29 remaining before the break with the hosts scoring 38 of the half's final 57 points to take a 55-28 lead into the intermission.
 
CBU's edge grew to a high of 35 at 80-45 before the Privateers outscored the Bucs 26-11 down the stretch to produce the final margin of victory.
 
UNO will now turn its attention to a game on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Delta State. The contest is the backend of a doubleheader with the Lady Privateers and Lady Statemen, who will tip off at 6 p.m.
