SELMA, Ala. – The University of New Orleans men's basketball team received a career-high 24 points from Lovell Cook in a 78-73 loss to Selma (Ala.) on Monday night.

SU (10-10) was able to overcome Cook's career-best effort by dominating in the paint.

Despite just a 40-38 rebounding advantage for the Bulldogs, the hosts were able to outscored UNO (17-15) in the paint in an order to rally from an 11-point first half deficit.

Jamie Washington scored 14 of his 22 points in the second as SU completed a rally that began in the first half when his team trailed 26-15 with 7:23 to go.  The Bulldogs cut into the Privateer lead by scoring 16 of 21 points heading into the break to get within two at 33-31.

The lead exchange hands several times in the second half with UNO's last advantage of the contest coming on a Max
Banchy three-point shot with 7:27 to go in order to take a 59-57 lead.

The Bulldogs responded on the next possession with a Dominque Thomas three-point play and never looked back, building a 12-point edge with 1:14 to go before UNO scored 8 of the game's final nine points.

SU's surge in the final 20 minutes came as the team shot 58.6 percent from the field following a 37.5 percent clip in the first half. The Privateers in comparison shot 46.4 percent for the game, including 12 of 24 for 50 percent from the field in the second half.

Another factor working against UNO was its 12 second half turnovers and 23 trips to the line by the Bulldogs, throwing off the visiting squad's rhythm.

Joining Cook in double-figures for the Privateers was Darrell Williams with 11 points.

Antonio Wertz added seven points and nine rebounds in his final contest for UNO while Brandon Knight reached 150 assists on the season with two more in the contest. The two assists moved Knight into sixth place by himself in school history in the single-season assist category.

Monday's contest brought the 2011-12 season to an end for first-year head coach Mark Slessinger and the Privateers.
