Lamar Defeats Privateers in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team won the first set at Lamar, but could not maintain momentum as the Cardinals stormed back for the 3-1 victory on Saturday evening.

The Privateers (3-21, 0-11) came out firing on all cylinders in the first set, winning 25-21 while receiving a strong effort from seniors Marti Richmiller and Nandi Brown with each providing four kills.  Sophomore Celeste Ramirez recorded 11 of her 32 assists in the first set to also aid in the cause.

Richmiller finished the game with 12 kills, while Brown finished with nine for the Privateers.

The Cardinals (8-14, 6-4) fought back to even the match in the second set, 25-15, and after intermission won the next two sets to claim the victory.  Lamar was led by Sierra Whittaker with 15 kills, and Alexa Johnson provided the extra push with 44 assists.

New Orleans will be back in action this week when they host Incarnate Word in the HPC at 7 p.m.
