LAKE CHARLES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers fought to even the sets after two played, but it was McNeese State coming away with the 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-13, 25-15) victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Privateers (2-16, 0-6) fell behind after the first set, but rallied in the second set to edge the Cowgirls, 25-21. In the second set, it was
Alyssa Podwell on the attack with 6 of her 10 kills in the game to help power the Privateers.
Celeste Ramirez also provided a powerful push with 13 of her career-high 41 assists for the game coming in the second set, which helped lead to a 71 % attack percentage for the Privateers.
However, the Cowgirls (12-8, 5-2) regained momentum and the Privateers failed to record over 15 points in a match the rest of the way.
The Privateers received strong efforts from
Marti Richmiller with 16 kills and 13 digs, while
Lauren Levy had 21 digs. Ramirez had 11 digs to go along with her career-best 41 assists.
McNeese State was led by Sophie Tenbusch with 16 kills and Vanessa Bentley had a game-high 43 assists.
The Privateers return this week to the HPC for a three-game home stand to face Alcorn State on Tuesday, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday and Houston Baptist on Saturday. First serve is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, while Saturday's tilt will begin at 2 p.m.
