HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Playing away from the Crescent City for the fourth match of a seven-match road swing, New Orleans was defeated 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-19) by Southern Miss on Tuesday night.

UNO (0-4) had its best hitting performance of the campaign against USM (3-1).

Kelsea Hundtoft was the key contributor to the offensive improvement by the Privateers, putting forth a career-high 10 kills while hitting .429 for the match. Alyssa Podwell and Ashley Everett added five and four kills for UNO, respectively.

Ariane Labrzycki totaled 14 assists with Celeste Ramirez joining her teammate in double-digits with 10 additional assists. Lauren Levy tallied 14 digs for the Privateers with Cara Sander accounting for 3 of 4 service aces for the squad.

A pair of poor starts riddled UNO, which fell behind 6-0 to begin the first set before dropping 6 of 7 points at the onset of the second frame. The third set was more competitive between the two teams, which battled through five ties before USM broke a 7-all gridlock with a 6-1 run to seize the momentum.

The Golden Eagles were led by Stephany Purdue and Jasmine Crowell, who each posted nine kills. Quinci Hayward added seven kills for USM, which received a match-high 33 assists from Kristen Fleming.

UNO will continue its season at the Louisiana Tech Invitational, beginning on Friday with matches against Western Michigan (10 a.m.) and McNeese State (5 p.m.). The tournament concludes on Saturday at 12 p.m. against host LTU.
