NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (2-3) set a new program record for widest rebounding margin and scored 78 points in the paint in a 109-46 victory over the Trinity Baptist Eagles (2-10) on Saturday at the Lakefront Arena.

The game was put out of reach early on as the Privateers out-rebounded the Eagles by 52 (67-15), breaking the old record of a +36 rebounding margin set back in 1985. The Privateers also scored over 100 points for the first time since 1999.

The Eagles got a couple of early triples from Rebeca Lizotte who scored the Eagles' first 11 points. Lizotte gave the Eagles a couple of very early leads, but the Privateers hit a 14-2 run in the middle of the first quarter to build a 20-8 lead. After the first, the Privateers led 33-13 behind 70 percent from the field and scored 22 points in the paint.

New Orleans was able to force miscues with their press in spots, forcing 10 turnovers. New Orleans had balanced scoring in the first half as seven players had between six and eight points. New Orleans took a 59-26 lead to the half. The Privateers also had a 28-10 advantage on the glass in the first half.

Five players landed in double figures as the Privateers shot 62.8 percent from the field for the first half and 54.7 percent for the game. New Orleans also connected on 12-of-14 trips to the free throw line and had 27 second chance points. Trinity Baptist was held to just one offensive rebound throughout the contest.

Halie Matthews and
Randi Brown co-led the team in points with 14 each.
Kayla Mundy scored 13 points while
Bria Platenburg and
Shania Woods each added 10. Woods and
Raven Coleman landed just shy of double-doubles as Woods also hauled in eight boards while Coleman posted eight points and 10 boards.
Danielle Davis had five of the team's 23 assists.

Trinity Baptist was led by Lizotte who scored 17 points, but was held to just three after the halftime break. Juliana Calice added 12 points and Anasia Hughes scored nine. Kannesha Ellick added eight points. The Eagles were held to just 26.8 percent from the field.

New Orleans will next take on Jackson State on Saturday, Dec. 12. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
