Privateers Fall Behind Early in Loss to Lamar

NEW ORLEANS, La.
– The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (8-13, 2-5) gave up a couple of early runs and had some threats at the plate squashed in the middle innings of an 8-1 loss to the Lamar Cardinals (9-12, 1-6) on Friday night at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark.

The scoring started in the first inning for the Cardinals. After a CJ Moore one-out triple, Jake Nash was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners. A ground ball looked to be a double play, but the throw on the turn could not finish off the twin killing and Lamar scored to make it 1-0.

In the third, Lamar added another run to make the score 2-0, but the Privateers had a big chance to respond by loading the bases with one out.  Preston Marsh hit one on a line right to third baseman, Reed Seeley who then threw over to second to finish off a double play and the biggest New Orleans threat.

Lamar added a pair of runs in the fifth with both being unearned. Seeley and Jake Nash reached base on a hit by pitch and an error on a sacrifice bunt respectively. Both runners were cashed in to move the Cardinals advantage to 4-0. On the mound, Chase Angelle went the distance and set a new career high with 10 strikeouts to pace Lamar to their first conference win.

Jonathan Coco had two hits in three at-bats and reached base a third time on a walk. Matt Rykaczewski doubled and scored the only Privateers run in the eighth as Ray Veit's RBI ground out drew him in. Between three New Orleans pitchers there were no walks issued, but there were four hit batters.

The Cardinals had 15 hits as a team and were led by Seeley who went 3-for-5 with two runs. Kyle Markum went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and CJ Moore had two hits with two runs scored. Stijn van der Meer also added two hits from the leadoff spot in the order.

There is a game time change for tomorrow due to impending weather. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
