NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The University of New Orleans volleyball played against Stephen F. Austin on ESPN 3 on Thursday evening, falling to the host LadyJacks 3-1 (25-15, 25-13, 23-25, 25-7).
Freshman outside hitter
Jordan Yauch (Biological Science) led the offense with a match-high 15 kills while contributing 13 digs on defense for her fifth double-double of the season.
"They were strong defensively as we expected at the net," head coach
Millicent Van Norden explained. "We had some key opportunities in the match that we didn't take advantage of. We didn't get what we needed from some players, but we got a consistent night out of Yauch and Grice."
Freshman setter
Sarah Thomas (Accounting & Finance) recorded 32 assists for the Privateers, while sophomore middle blocker
Kaitlyn Grice (Biology) posted two service aces with six total blocks, three solo and three assisted.
On defense, freshman defensive specialist
Andrea Nava (Education) led three UNO student-athletes in double-digit digs with a match-high 27. Sophomore outside hitter
Blessing Dunn (Business Management) posted 15 followed by Yauch with 13.
After dropping the opening two sets, New Orleans (4-23, 1-13 SLC) hit a match-best 16 kills on a .227 percentage to force a fourth set. The Privateers trailed Stephen F. Austin (17-9, 10-3 SLC) until a late 3-0 run with a kill and service ace from Yauch plus a termination from sophomore outside hitter
Lane Hindenburg (Exercise Science & Physiology) gave the visitors the 19-16 advantage. Back-to-back points by the hosts made it a one-point game at 19-18, with Stephen F. Austin creating a 23-21 lead before a 4-0 spree by the Privateers ended the set.
UNO continues its final road trip of the season on Saturday, Nov. 5 when New Orleans takes on Sam Houston State. The Privateers conclude the 2016 campaign at home on Saturday, Nov. 12 when the royal blue & silver host Southeastern Louisiana.
