NEW ORLEANS – Kaitlyn Grice continued to be a menace inside with seven blocks and three student-athletes reached double figures in kills but the University of New Orleans' (9-12, 3-6 Southland) two-match win streak came to an end Thursday at the Human Performance Center as Northwestern State University (11-13, 6-3 Southland) escaped New Orleans with a 3-1 victory, 25-17, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23.
Offensively, New Orleans hit .288 with
Kyra Hunter leading the way (13 kills on .571 hitting).
Lane Hindenburg followed with 12 kills (.400) and
Rondolyn Bryant added 10 (.474). It was close throughout the evening with 24 ties and 10 lead changes.
FIRST SET
The Lady Demons took a 22-13 lead but New Orleans responded with three unanswered points to cut the deficit. Northwestern State clinched the opening set 25-17. Grice registered two blocks and
Brianna Vega collected three kills.
SECOND SET
The Privateers regrouped and jumped out to a 15-10 lead, forcing an NSU timeout. Later in the frame, New Orleans recorded back-to-back points to extend its lead to 23-19. The set ended with four unanswered en route to the 25-19 victory, knotting the match up at 1 apiece. Through two, Grice led all players with four swats. Vega and Hunter tied for the team lead with six kills and
Manela Grau had 11 assists.
THIRD SET
UNO continued to dominate coming out of the break, taking a 5-1 lead in set No. 3 as Northwestern State called a timeout to try and kill the momentum.
The Lady Demons took their first lead of the set 16-15 but Grice's kill tied the stanza at 16. It was the first of three consecutive points for the Blue and Silver, giving New Orleans an 18-16 edge.
The back and forth affair continued with NSU's run resulting in a 20-19 lead. However, Hindenburg's kill succeeded the rally, tying it back up, this time at 20.
Northwestern State took a 2-1 lead with the 25-23 win in set No. 3.
FOURTH SET
Grice was a menace defensively with seven blocks in the match through four. The fourth featured 16 ties and four lead changes. The Lady Demons picked up the victory with a block to win the match 3-1
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Hunter led the Privateers with 13 kills on .571 hitting and added three blocks. Hindenburg followed with 12 kills (.400) and a service ace and Bryant finished with 10 kills (.474). Grice led all players with seven blocks to go with her seven kills.
Blessing Dunn collected 17 digs and two blocks,
Rhyan Rand added 11 digs and
Samantha Uline finished with 10.
