New Orleans- The senior tandem of
Randi Brown and
Kayla Mundy combined for 47 points and UNO jumped out to an 11-0 lead at the start as the Privateers defeated the Xavier University of Louisiana Gold Nuggets, Thursday, at Lakefront Arena, 85-50.

Brown, the Southland Conference's leading scorer, canned 29 points while Mundy hit a season-high 18 points---8-of-9 from the field--- as New Orleans (2-7), outscored the Gold Nuggets (5-3), 29-5 in the first quarter. Mundy also found time to grab 8 rebounds and dish out three assists.

Junior center
Shania Woods joined Brown and Mundy as double-figure scorers with 16 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 6-of-7 from the field.

Point guard
Mariah Wright had 7 points but distributed 9 assists (season-high) and led all performers in steals with 4 (season-high).

"I have so much respect for Coach Browder and his team so I challenged my team to come out and set the tone early," said head coach
Keeshawn Davenport. "I told them the first five minutes will determine the last 35 minutes. If we don't come out and play the first 5 than the last 35 will be a dog fight. They came out and took what I said to heart."

New Orleans equaled its highest scoring quarter of the season with 29 points. UNO scored 29 in the fourth period in their win over CSUN.Â
Kayla Mundy was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line for 14 points in the period.Â
Randi Brown had 10. New Orleans scored 19 points off turnovers.

Randi Brown had 13 points in the second period, hitting 3-of-3 from behind the 3-point arch. New Orleans took the period 21-13 and led at the break 50-18. Xavier was 6-of-23 from the field at the half for 26.1 percent.

THIRD QUARTER

 The Gold Nuggets play the Privateers to a 17-17 draw in the third period thanks to 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. The Gold Nuggets won the battle for second chance points in the period (6-3) but could get no closer than 26 points at 55-29.

FOURTH QUARTER

UNO put the game away with 16 points-in-the-paint in the fourth quarter. They finished with 42 for the contest to only 14 for the Gold Nuggets. New Orleans grabbed their largest lead of the day at 38 with 1:01 to play.

New Orleans shot a season-high 62.3 percent from the floor (33-of-53) and 7-of-12 on 3-pointers 58.3 percent, both season highs.

85 points is the highest point total of the year for the Privateers.

Despite losing by 35 points, Xavier outscored New Orleans from the bench 22-11.
