NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (10-13, 4-4 Southland) had a total of 54 kills but it was not enough as Abilene Christian (8-10, 5-1 Southland) took the match 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 12-25, 24-26) Thursday afternoon in the Human Performance Center.
Kaitlyn Grice leads the Privateers with 14 kills and seven blocks.
Ehize Omoghibo added 11 kills and five blocks.
Brianna Vega had nine kills
Blessing Dunn pitched in eight.
Sarah Thomas dished out 31 assists.
SET ONE
The Privateers held ACU to -.254 hitting early in the set. And the teams were evenly matched through the set, but unfortunately, ACU took the opening set 27-25
SET TWO
UNO started set two getting out to a 6-3 lead. Later in the set, the Privateers went on a 10-4 run to open up their lead to 19-13. ACU did not go quietly shrinking the UNO lead to 21-10 but UNO scored the final four points of the set to even things up at 1-1 with a 25-21 set two win.
Grice and Omoghibo had three kills apiece in the set. UNO held ACU to .128 hitting in the set.
SET THREE
The Wildcats came out of the break clicking on all cylinders leading by as much as 13 in the set as they went on to take the set 25-12.
SET FOUR
The Privateers got off to a strong start to the set for going up 8-3 early. Later the Blue and Silver extended its lead to 18-12 on the back of a 5-0 run highlighted by an
Amanda Wurster service ace and
Rhyan Rand Kill. But the Wildcats took the set and match with a 26-24 set four win.
NEXT UP
The Privateers are back on the court Saturday as they take on Sam Houston State at 1 p.m. in the Human Performance Center.
